Apply First Aid - Full Course

The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage emergency first aid situations and deliver competent emergency care until the arrival of professional medical support. Once completed, participants will obtain a first aid certificate that is valid for three years. The Apply First Aid course is nationally recognised WorkCover and DOCS approved training.

Course Content:

  • The principles of first aid and its application
  • Recognition and management of emergency situations
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Treatment of shock, infection, fractures, bleeding and burns
  • Management of common medical emergencies
  • Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings

Accreditation

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment in the following units of competence

  • HLTFA301B - Apply First Aid
  • HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR (this unit is achieved as a part of the Apply First Aid qualification)

Duration

Either two full days of training (16hrs) or the flexible delivery option which involves one full day of training (8hrs) plus the completion of a question and answer workbook, either online or hardcopy, in the participants own time before the course.

Assessment

Two multiple choice tests, the first for CPR consisting of 20 questions and the second for the first aid theory component consisting of 46 questions. Both tests have a pass mark of 80% which must be met before the participant is deemed competent.

Validity

The Apply First Aid qualification is valid for 3 years from the final training date, it is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council that the CPR qualification be updated every 12 months.

Apply First Aid - Update

  • Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings
