Unit Aim

For participants to establish their competence in Building setting out and basic surveying functions. Participants will also gain an insight into the role of the Surveyor during the construction process.

What You Will Learn

  • To carry out basic setting out techniques and associated calculations
  • To set up and use an automatic level to reduce observations to reduced levels
  • Using reduced levels to carry out certain calculations
  • Prepare a contour diagram and longitudinal section
  • Determine associated grades and levels in a typical drainage pipeline

How You Will Benefit

At the conclusion of this unit participants will have a sound knowledge of surveying techniques and be able to determine the extent of excavation on a site, the gradient and depth of drainage trenches and the gradient of driveways to determine whether or not they are negotiable.
